Little Big Horn - pronghorn antelope - study for larger work

19th century painters such as Edward Landseer, Carl Rungus and Rosa Bonheur focused on animals, and worked from life. I look to their work when I create my own paintings, and too I head outside to work from life.

Filling sketchbooks with drawings in the field as well as painting oil studies to get the color c correct, are some of the ways they learned about their subjects, and I try to follow these examples t to create truthful work in my paintings. I study the animals both in the zoos and in the field, and I I use a camera to gather more information about my subject.
